College Life

St. Angela's College nestles in 80 wooded acres overlooking Lough Gill - one of the most scenic and tranquil locations imaginable. No wonder the poet W B Yeats, who, together with his artist brother, Jack, drew much inspiration from Sligo, spoke of the area as the 'Land of Heart's Desire'.

cinema_sligoAlthough set in an area of great natural beauty - one of the scenic 'secret places' of the North West - the St. Angela's campus is only a few minutes from the bustling town of Sligo whose large student population brings a special energy and 'buzz' to the social, cultural and sporting life of the area. Upwards of 3,500 students from all over Ireland now receive third-level education in the town.
Consequently, there is great vibrancy to life in the area. Students are welcomed and encouraged to participate - whether in the theatre, arts and cultural activities for which the town is famous - or in the many sporting clubs and varied leisure activities. Of course, student life in Sligo includes a very lively entertainment, pub and club scene where traditional and modern Irish music merge to bring their own particular energy to the post-study hours!

Sligo is the fastest growing business and commercial centre in the Northwest. Inward investment and the development of indigenous industries have provided new employment opportunities, as well as stimulating the development of an excellent social and cultural infrastructure. A recent report 'Border, Midlands and Western Region Development Strategy 2000-2006', highlights the potential of Sligo to act as a growth driver with its 'strong combination of industry, services, arts and culture and tourism'.

Under the National Spatial Strategy which addresses spatial imbalance in relation to spreading economic and social development more evenly throughout the country, Sligo is designated for gateway status. This is due to its strategic location and its capacity to develop substantially, to build on its current strengths and energise its wider area.

St. Angela's has excellent facilities for students and offers a broad range of services in keeping with those found in most third level colleges.
Students benefit from the interaction afforded by small class sizes. Courses are fully integrated to provide students with a holistic education in a community atmosphere, which fosters personal development and academic excellence.
